Sat 3 Aug 2013 - Yass Under 9 Redbacks v Belwest Hawks
The mighty U 9 Red Backs put on a great match again to win 2-1 against the Belwest Hawks.
The game was evenly matched but the great team work and tenacious play saw the Red Backs come out on top. As the players learn to play to their strengths in positions they are beginning to pass and depend on each other. As a result of the strengthened team play they were able to score 2 impressive goals from the boot of Ewan McAleer. Alex Schofield and Alice Ruwald both played strongly in the goal and on the field in attack. Ahriman Gongdon positioned well but narrowly missed a few shots at goal. Edward Wilson and Thomas Dixon were as solid as it gets in defence in the first half with Thomas teaming up with Hayley Davis and Aleks Gagic in the second half. Aleks, Ewan and Alice were impressive in holding the mid field and never gave up their hunger for the ball.
This team are beginning to gel and work as a smooth machine so if you get the chance to see them play next week at home in Yass you will be in for a treat.
Sat 29 Jun 2013 - Yass Under 9 Redbacks v Gungahlin Blues
The Redbacks were at home this week to play against the Gungahlin Blues. Although the Blues won 5-1 the Redbacks played well and were a good match for the visitors. The team was greatful to Ewan McAleer for securing the only goal for the team after they had worked hard together to get in the oppositions territory. Alex Gagic showed great skill in the goal in the second half and kept the score line at a standstill. Alex Schofield used his impressive boot on many occasions especially on a number of corner kicks that were there for the taking. Edward Field-Wilson was strong in defence as was Thomas Dixon who was missed when he played up in the forwards. Hayley Davis enjoyed her time on the field and helped out in forwards and defence. Ahriman Gongdon was happy to run on the field after a stint in goals in the first half and was as ever present in the play. Alice Ruwald was the usual spectacular player, with a constant hunger for the ball and her great positional play giving her a few near misses at goals.
The score lines of the last couple of weeks haven’t been in favour of the team, but they are continuing to play well and keep the opposition on their toes.
After a long break the team will be back to re-claim the pitch for Narelle’s Hair and the Mighty Redbacks of Yass!
Sat 8 Jun 2013 - Yass Under 9 Redbacks v Gungahlin Strikers
Last weekend saw the team take on the Radford Raiders in a very, very wet Yass. The team were able to keep the score to a 1 all draw despite the cold and slippery conditions.
Arihman Gongdon, Alice Ruwald were consistently onto the ball to challenge the opposition. Aleks Gagic played solidly in the midfield and narrowly missed a shot or two at goal. Edward Field Wilson took a ball for the team but went back on again to challenge them in an near attempt at a goal. Hayley Davis kept the score line to nil all in the first half and after warming up went back on to solidly defend in the 2nd half. Thomas Dixon showed the advantage of height with spectacular throw ins and some nice headers.
A keeper change in the 2nd half and a wrestle with a wet shirt afforded the opposition a goal with the Raiders scoring. This was then challenged by Ewan McAleer who used superb footwork to run the length of the field to allow Arihman Gongdon to score for the Redbacks.
Special thanks to James Grey for his efforts on the field and playing for the redbacks for Alex Schofield.
Sat 25 May 2013 - Belwest Hawks v Yass Under 9 Redbacks
At Latham the team played as a superbly with all players putting in 100% for the entire game.
A massive win of 10-4 saw Arihman Gongdon open the scoreline and then add another later in the match, Aleks Gagic and Ewan McAleer scored an impressive 3 goals each for the team and Alex Schofield enjoyed his return to the field with 2 goals for the Red Backs.
Thomas, Edward and Hayley were consistent in goals and in defence and kept the opposition at bay with excellent marking and shadowing.
Alice Ruwald played superbly as always, keeping the field open with her attention to positioning and chasing every ball possible.
It is great to see the team growing and playing together as a team and realising that all players work together to win a match not just the goal scorers.
Next week is at home against Boys Grammar so head to Walker Park if you want to see the ever exciting Narelle’s Hair U9’s Redbacks in action.

Alex Schofield was excellent in goal on the weekend making some fantastic saves as well as in his usual finesse on the field.
Hayley Davis has had a good start to this year’s season showing good improvement in her ball skills and positioning on the field.
Edward Field-Wilson played strongly for the team in the first week of the season in goals and in defence and was sorely missed last week while he was recovering from injury.
